Educator and Former State Representative| Conroy, Iowa

Quentin Stanerson has dedicated his life to service - first in the United States Marine Corps, then in Iowa’s classrooms and later in the state legislature. Born in Conroy, Iowa, in 1977, Stanerson enlisted in the Marine Corps after graduating from Williamsburg High School, serving four years with multiple overseas deployments.

Following his military service, Stanerson pursued higher education, earning an Associate of Arts from Kirkwood Community College, a Bachelor of Arts in history from Coe College, and a master’s degree in education administration from Grand Canyon University.  For 15 years, he taught middle and high school social studies and coached wrestling and track in the North Linn Community School District, impacting countless students with the values and work ethic he developed as a Marine.

In 2012, Stanerson was elected to represent Iowa’s 95th District in the House of Representatives. His tenure reflected the same dedication he displayed in uniform, notably during his time as chairman of the Veterans Affairs Committee, where he fiercely advocated for veterans and military families. He also served on the Local Government, State Government, Veterans Affairs, Ways and Means, and Education committees, acting as vice chairman for the latter. After two impactful terms, he stepped away from political office in 2016, choosing to fully return to education.

Since 2019, Stanerson has served as the principal of Audubon Middle-High School, continuing his commitment to shaping future generations with the principles of integrity and perseverance that guided his own journey. He resides in Audubon, Iowa, with his wife, Nikki, and their three children.

Director, Linn County Veteran Services | Cedar Rapids, Iowa

Dustin Peterson has dedicated his life to serving veterans, both in uniform and as a civilian. A retired Master Gunnery Sergeant, Peterson spent 24 years in the United States Marine Corps, culminating in a leadership role that emphasized mentorship, discipline, and strategic oversight. His military career instilled in him a powerful commitment to supporting fellow service members.

Since 2022, Peterson has served as the director of Linn County Veteran Services in Iowa. In this role, he oversees programs that assist veterans and their families with accessing benefits, healthcare, and employment opportunities. Under his leadership, the department has expanded its outreach initiatives, including the establishment of the Linn County Veteran Network, which has successfully connected numerous veterans with job opportunities and community resources.

Upon accepting the position, Peterson said, “Throughout my Marine Corps career, I have helped hundreds of Marines transition from active service back to their communities. As a leader of Marines, my goal was always to return contributing members back to society and ensure a positive transition. This passion will allow me and the staff of Linn County Veterans Affairs to reach, educate, and advocate for all veterans within Linn County.”

Peterson's approach is characterized by proactive engagement and a deep understanding of the challenges veterans face when transitioning to civilian life. He has been instrumental in clarifying the department's mission, emphasizing its role in facilitating access to services rather than managing them directly.

A native of Iowa, Peterson continues to reside in Cedar Rapids, where he remains an active advocate for veterans' issues. His ongoing commitment reflects the Marine Corps values of honor, courage, and commitment, guiding his efforts to ensure that veterans receive the support and recognition they deserve.
